Top 10 Most Disappointing Anime of Spring 2011 --> How about no?

You are friggin' kidding me!

  1. Nichijou
  2. 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku
  3. DOG DAYS
  4. A Channel
  5. Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai
  6. Steins;Gate
  7. Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
  8. Henzemi
  9. Hidan no Aria
  10. Softenni

Source: Sankaku Complex

This is outrageous! That Steins;Gate is even on that list is frivolous, Nichijou being number 1 even more so. Denpa Onna does also not really deserve a place in that list.

This week’s Steins;Gate post will come later this evening or tomorrow at the latest. I’ll also try and catch up on Denpa Onna tomorrow.

Steins;Gate episode 7 & episode 8

Ruka cosplays and Mayuri observes him.

Mayuri: “Kurisu will be all over you if you wear this, Ruka. She really gets off of that cosplay!”

Kurisu: "I don't!" *blush*

Okarin’s thoughts: “Mh… Kurisu all over Ruka. Would that count as yuri?”

In episode 7, a lot of interesting stuff is going on. Like Kurisu being a tsundere queen. Anyway, Okarin tried to use the Phone Microwave (name subject to change) to win the lottery. When he sends the message, the past does indeed change. He apparently told Urushibara Ruka the lotto numbers. The numbers were correct, but Ruka failed and got the last one wrong.

Being shocked that the experiment succeeded, Okarin goes downstairs and meets Suzuha, who tells him he looks like he was brainwashed. Stating that may actually be possible, Suzuha panics, drags him to the bench and checks his eyes.

Suzuha prepares to kiss Okarin

Suzuha: “Don’t move, this french kiss will blow your mind.” Okarin: “Wha…”
Wouldn’t it have been interesting if that actually happened?

Saying there is no chip, Suzuha tells Okarin he wasn’t brainwashed, which further supports the possibility that Suzuha is actually from the future. On a side note, I found myself growing rather fond of Suzuha. She is kinda cute in a way.

Episode 8 was interesting on a whole new level:

Makise Kurisu grabs Urushibara Ruka's breast

*grab* It’ll hit her any moment now. Hard.

Makise Kurisu: Orz

Ah, there it is. Reality is harsh indeed.

Okarin wants to change the world line again to confirm if he can retain his memories after such a change. To do so, he sends Daru a message giving him an advantage in a card game with Feyris. But the world line does not change and Daru still lost instantly. Kiryuu Moeka wants to send the next message telling herself not to buy a new mobile phone. After sending that message, the world line changes, and Moeka is not known to Kurisu, Daru and Mayuri anymore, because she never came to the lab.

Urushibara Ruka, our delicious trap, overheard Okarin talking about the time machine in the lab and came there the next day to ask Okarin if he can send the next D-mail. What he wants to achieve by this is lunacy. Utter madness:

Urushibara Ruka: "I want to become a girl!"

WHAT?! The delicious trap wants to disarm himself and become delicious cake? I’M IN!

Ruka wants to change his gender by telling his mom to eat a lot of veggies while she is pregnant (yes, I know. This is the reason why they even agreed to his request). When he sends the mail, the world line actually does change, so something has to be different. But Okarin cannot observe any change after staring at Ruka’s chest. He realizes it’d be difficult to just ask whether Ruka became a girl or not. Will Ruka be disarmed and become cake? Will Kurisu finally admit she actually loves Okarin? Will Mayuri grow a brain? Will Suzuha strip naked? Questions over questions…

I haz tree on mah table!

Bonsai

Yes, I got a bonsai as a gift. Though I do have the equippment to start shaping it like I want, I am too scared to do anything yet. Must acquire knowledge before doing anything. One mistake and it will take a long time to correct.

Any bonsai specialists out there? If by chance one is reading here, please leave me a comment as to how I should start.

Spice & Wolf light novels vol. 1 - 3

Spice & Wolf light novels vol. 1 - 3

I was skeptical at first, but these absolutely wonderful books easily surpass the anime. The story is very much the same as in the anime (as far as I can tell having read the first two volumes). Regardless of being pretty spoiled having watched the anime, I really, really enjoy these books.

The trades are explained in much greater detail than in the anime, which gives you a far better understanding as to why something works. That, in turn, adds a great deal to the story.

For those who watched the anime: Remember the trenni silver coin trade? Lawerence spends two and a half pages in the book just to explain how the many different currencies work and how their value changes under certain conditions. It may sound boring, but it absolutely isn’t.

The development of the relationship between Lawerence and Horo is also described in great detail. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve caught myself grinning in delight while reading Horo getting the better of Lawerence or when Horo has her emotional moments and grows closer to Lawerence when he comforts her.

The light novels are worth every single penny and I strongly suggest any Spice & Wolf fans to get them.

Steins;Gate episode 6

Daru: "Put the banana in!"

Now that would be fanservice. If it happened, that is. There would be so much drama and flamewars and lots of butthurt fanboys

Mayuri to Kurisu: "Pain, pain go away!" *pets Kurisu*

Yuri field detected! Target locked, beginning operation “Hauu~ omochikaeri!”

A very nice episode indeed. Kurisu, Okarin and Daru are making progress with the Phone Microwave and worked out the details of how the time machine works and under what conditions. As always, Mayuri is still the mistress of uselessness, simply running around petting people, looking happy and be there as eye-candy (Kurisu is bettahr!).

I wonder if Mayuri will ever make a significant contribution to the story or if she is doomed to be a sidekick for all eternity.

Daru gets completely ignored by Kiryuu Moeka

This is a pain many of us share

Kiryuu Moeka (aka. Shining Finger) got quite a bit of screentime. Apart from being hot, she rather sends mails instead of speaking. She probably funds a phone company all alone and her demand on new phones has to be huge too, seeing her speed-typing.

Her exceptional interest in the IBN 5100 is also suspicious. There are still no details revealed, but she is likely to be very important at some point. Just like Suzuha. Okarin has enlarged his harem lab by forcefully adding Moeka to the members.
